| WE MUST BRING BACK THE 55 MPH SPEED LIMIT laura bush - VEHICULAR HOMICIDE 12:35:57 |
| | These soaring gas prices make it a 2 + 2 is 4. We simply have to cut back on consumption. And the 55 would also save thousands of lives a year just like it did in the 70s.

| Higher speedlimits = no increase in collisions or severity there of Brent P 23:51:31 |
| | http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/24/2442.asp
"Mannering used a statistical model to calculate accident probabilities based on his own examination of data from 390,000 accidents recorded by the Indiana Vehicle Crash Record System. After applying the model, he concluded that the increased speed limit had no effect on the probability of suffering an accident nor did it increase the severity of accidents that did occur.
In 2006, only 5.78 percent of the state's accidents were caused by unsafe speed, a decrease from 2004. The study also noted that a 15 MPH increase in the speed limit did not produce a 15 MPH increase in the actual speed traveled. Instead, real speeds increased only 12 MPH. "

| Explain This Scott in SoCal 22:06:56 |
| | So I'm sitting in the left turn pocket behind a couple of other cars. The left turn arrow is red, but the through lanes have a green. The through lanes are completely empty when a blonde in a white Jetta pulls up and comes to a complete stop AT THE GREEN LIGHT. After a few moments, she realized the light was green and pulled through the intersection, just as the light turned yellow.
Can you explain this behavior?
Here's my theory: as she pulled up, she saw a bunch of cars stopped, and figured the light must be red, so she stopped also. Dunno how a big bright green ball could escape a sighted person's attention for several seconds, but that's the best explanation I can come up with. -- "Dave's not here, man!" - Tommy Chong

| EZ Pass question Anthony Giorgianni 19:08:29 |
| | Hello All
This is for those familiar with EZ Pass.
I just got one (NY) and didn't want to use the tape on my windshield. So I got three clear suction cups (about 1 1/4 inch each) with narrow wire hooks. I straightened out the hooks and placed the wires between the two sides of the Dual Lock mounting tape to hold the cups. For the third one, I attached another piece of Dual Lock horizontally between the other two pieces. and inserted the wire. The three cups hold hold the EZ Pass transponder nice and tight on the glass next to my inside mirror (92 Explorer).
Is there any reason to believe that the suction cups will interfere with the signal? I know you can buy suction cup holder for EZ Pass. But in my case, the cups are blocking a lot of the EZ Pass surface between the transponder and windshield, so I don't know. This radio transmission, so I'm thinking it shouldn't matter.
Thanks.
Anthony Giorgianni For everyone's benefit, please post back to the group

Holy. f'ing. crap. I am pleasantly surprised to see that the SCOTUS actually ruled according to a strict historical interpretation of the Constitution on such an important case. The bad news, of course, is that looking at which justices voted which way, it appears that this is still a liberal vs. conservative issue, instead of being a Constitutional issue - in other words, I suspect that many people will interpret this decision as being a political one and it will still be debated for years to come. Well at least they didn't give local governments unfettered ability to 'regulate' firearms. Some of the predictions I heard were along the lines of the council of nine saying it was a right to have a gun but the states and local governments could make it impossible to have one legally. Thankfully they clearly decided that DC's gun law went too far.
Ground held for a little while longer.... guess the government will still need to use natural disasters as an excuse for their gun grabbing for a little while longer.

Is there anything unsafe about driving 45 on interstates ( exception being congested freeways ). I am a cyclist and find it perfectly safe to cycle in traffic much faster than me. So I dont see how going 45 on the interstate would be any less safe. Even if someone hits you doing 70, that is only a 25 mph differential which is nothing. A bicycle is small and easily passed. A car is not. 45mph on an interstate in otherwise free-flowing traffic is a hazard.
25mph differential in a crash with another car will probably total both of them.
