| | My daughter has a Chevy truck that had to have the battery disconnected for servicing. Now it is showing as locked (LOC on the screen). The dealer wants her to pay $40 or $50 to have them unlock it. I pushed the 2 and 3 button and got 062 and then the AM/FM button and got 063. Can anyone help me with the unlock code?

| | I recently bought a 97 LeSabre 3.8. The car has numerous problems. 1. It dies when letting off of the accelerator and idles rough at start up (have changed fuel filter, plugs and wires, maximum airflow sensor, and idle air control valve) still not fixed 2. It jerks hard around 50 mph 3. High pitched squeal under the hood 4. Even with ac fully charged the ac blows luke warm air
I've now had it to 6 mechanics and keep throwing money at this car but even the mechanics scratch their head and say "we can't find the problems". I'm most concerned with the dying and jerking. I can live with the squeal and lack of ac but I need it to run! Does anyone know of common problems associated with these 3.8 Buick engines that might be the culprit? I would GREATLY appreciate any info.

| | Hey Guy's I took my 98 Buick Skylark to a reputable mechanic & they kept it for two days checked everything with their sosfiscated equipment & everything is within specs & ECM tests were good. They turned off the MIL, road tested it several miles with scanner attached & light did not come back on everything looked normal so now they are scratching their heads also. I had them check the plugs & wiring & the plugs are AC OEM & are the correct ones for my car according to the owners manual & all parts that were replaced on the 115K tuneup IE: Plugs, Plug wires Fuel filter, Serpentine belt & Radiator hoses were purchased from a Carquest Parts Store & that is the Parts Store that most of the independant garages use in my neck of the woods. Some do use NAPA. Mechanic at this Garage gets all of his parts from Carquest. Thankfully the Garage owner did not charge me anything since they could not fix the problem. I feel sure that the MIL will come back on again because it has haunted me so many times in the past few months. The car runs perfectly gets 30+ miles to the gallon but it will not pass inspection if the code P0420 sets again in my location. I have pretty much exausted most of my alternatives & this is really frustrating. I know this is a long message & I apologize but I wanted to try to explain everything I could so someone out there might be able to help me. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. If I had plenty of money I would probably light up a match & put this car out of it's misery & give me some satisfaction. | | Anyone out there know if it is possible to change the back 3 plugs on a 3.8 litre 1993 Pontiac Transport without having to undo the engine mounts. I can see the plugs with a mirror and can just reach them with a stretch but I don't know if I can get a socket and ratchet in there. Is there a special tool for this or am I going to have to fork out $300 for four hours of shop labour to change these? Thanks for any input - Ken

| | For the last few months, the front passenger window will go down, but sticks going up. It will go up about 1 inch every 15 minutes or so.
I have read on several forums and the consensus is to lube the tracks or take the door panel off. I was wondering if it could be in the push-button switch. This may be a stupid question, but does the push-button switches pop off like the keys on a keyboard? I would like to try this first, as it seems the simplest fix if it is just dirty contacts.

| | I have a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire and today I put a CD in and it spit it out and said "Check CD". Well, now that's all it says on the display. It keeps trying to eject a CD, but there is not one in the player, it does this even when my car is off. Any suggestions as to what I can do besides take it to the dealer? The book says to wait and re-try and if it keeps happening then take it to the dealer, but that's the last thing I want to do!!!

| | The volume on my radio in my 2001 Malibu keep fading in and out. Any one had similar problems and is it worth while repairing. Been looking on the web and found a place that does refurbs for $180 but I have to take the car to the dealer to have the car computer accept the vin no. of the radio or vice versa.
Looking at after market stereos, I need to buy the special 'Metra VT-GMRC-01 GM Class II Data bus Interface' so I can keep my door chimes.
Been looking an Apline Unit for $180 and then by the time I add the 'chime' unit at $80 and no doubt the face plate kit, I am well on to the ??300 mark. Almost the price of a new GM unit.
Any ideas appreciated.

| | I have just bought a well-used 1988 GMC Vandura 1 ton full-size cube van with a 350 with TBI. It starts and runs great, has no oil leaks, all fluids are up to spec, everything works pretty well. It used to be a Penske rental, long before I got it, so who knows how many miles it has on it. It says 39k on the odometer, but since it only has a 5-place odo, it could be 539k for all I know. The biggest issue now (other than it pretty much has no interior to speak of) is that when I first start it, the "Service Engine Soon" light blinks for about a minute, then goes out. After running for a while and warming up, at idle with it in Drive, the light blinks again, but if I kick it into Neutral, it goes out (higher engine revs?). Otherwise it runs like a champ, no hesitation or speed limitations and it even passed California smog no sweat. Is it a low oil pressure condition? or what? The next consternation about this whole thing is that the ECM, which is bolted to the driver's seat pedestal, looks to be somewhat disconnected. There are 4 colored wires that come from the box and they are clipped about 2" from the box with the remaining length of the wires coiled up under the dash. I could reconnect these... but it runs fine... so should I? For the Service Engine light I've tried to use the paperclip in the plug-module trick to count the blinks and find the code. But I think since the ECM is disconnected, it only blinks twice and then goes steady, which is not a diagnostic code that I can find. Thanks in advance! |

Had the codes read and trouble code P1640-QDM-1 failure was read.I tried dis-connnect of battery to see if computer would clear code with no luck. | | I have a 95Chevy 350 in a c30 1 ton van. Sometimes the check engine lite comes on, sometimes not. The ECM puts the vehicle in limp mode....wont shift out of first gear. Took it to Auto zone, they cant check an OBD1. Took it to Advance, who hooks computer up and even with the check engine lite on, their computer doesnt even COMUNICATE with the ECM. I disconnect the battery and it resets (usually). Engine seems to be fine most of the time. Sometimes idles real fast, sometimes real slow, sometimes dies (smells like flooded). Each time I can disconnect the battery and all is well. I THINK the tranny will go into limp if the computer is dead. OH YEAH>>>>>the check engine lite will reset itself any time the engine is shut off. I think I have a bad ECM....any ideas??? |

| | I have a 2001 GMC sonoma that has the fleet headlights option with the sensor in the dashboard that automatically turns on the headlights. I don't know if having fleet headlights hasd anything to do with my problem or not, but I was just describing what knid of vehicle that I am experiencing problems with. The problem is: When I have my hazards flasher on and I depress the brake pedal the hazards flasher stops working and my turn signal indicator lights in the dash- both right and left come on steady as long as I have the brake pedal depressed. I don't like this and I feel that if I really need to use my flashers in an emergency situation on the road in a dangerous situation that it would be safer if I had use of both emergency flashers and brake lights. I guess that I could start by going around the vehicle and pulling every turn signal and brake light bulb to check the connections and to see if the correct bulbs are installed. Anyone have any other ideas? Thank You in advance to your responce. |

I recently witnessed a brand new model dodge truck getting stolen out of my works parking lot. It took them about 2 minutes before they raced it out of the lot. I imagine they also have the chip in key. what's the deal here ?

| | Having some trouble with my '95 Monte 3.4L DOHC.
Major lack of power. At wide open throttle it doesn't have the power to get the RPMs over 5,000 to hit the shift point, I have to let out the throttle for it to shift. At highway cruising speed, anywhere between 80km/h and 120km/h, the engine feels like it's missing. It's got that "bucking" feel. The TCC seems to be engaging and disengaging fine, idle seems to be fine.
Not sure if it's related, but while idling if I "blip" the throttle I can hear a rattle noise coming from accessorie belt side of engine, like the chain or a pulley making noise.
