| 94 Excel Suddenly died Silverfoot 15:49:22 |
| | I have a 94 excel which died on me about a month ago with no warning. The car will crank with lots of juice but has no spark. I am some what mechanically inclined but am completely stumped when it comes to electrical and ignition systems on vehicles.
So far I have replaced the distributor cap, rotor and the coil. None of these have fixed the problem. I think I might be looking in the wrong place. I have seen the post on similar problems but am in need of a little bit of help. I figured if I could get the car to spit out codes I might be able to narrow down the problem. I have not been able to get any codes using a light meter. I think I have located the place in the fuse box where to connect it, but I could be wrong. Do I need to have the key on when performing these tests? Does the ground for my light meter need to connected to one of the terminals in the fuse box or simply grounded to the car?
Any help with getting this car running would be a very much appreciated.

Blown engine daisyM31 21:04:57 |
| | I hit a ground hog last week. My oil pan was damaged. I drove the car for less than 3 min to store to get oil. Now the engine is locked up. Is there a safety switch on the Hyndai Elantra? The car never did over heat? Is the engine blown. |

| 2003 Elantra - Purge Pipe? Guest 14:59:37 |
| | About a week ago my 'check engine' light came on in my 2003 Elantra. I brought it to the deal and they stated it was the flex pipe. They replaced the pipe and everything seemed great until the light came back on. I brought it in and this time they are stating it is the purge pipe. I have no idea what the purge pipe is and whether or not this repair can wait (deal won’t answer question…just stating that the engine light will remain on). Is there anyone that may be able to help me please understand what a purge pipe is and whether it is something I should have repaired immediately. Thank you. |

| 2001 Elantra "Check Engine" light Ned 15:31:35 |
| | Hello All:
Was wondering if anyone had experienced something similar to what I've been experiencing.
Over the past 2 months or so, my "check engine" light has all of a sudden come on at intermittent times -- 3 or 4 times so far.
The first time it happened, I figured it may need to just have the 60,000 mile service and that would take care of it. Then it came back shortly after that and it just happened again today.
Every time I shut the engine off and turn it back on again, the check engine light is gone and the problem seems to be solved.
It may be my paranoia, but everytime the check engine light comes on, it seems to me that the car's engine seems a little weaker accelerating at a stop light. Otherwise, the engine feels and sounds the same to me.
A friend of mine suggested it is probably a computer glitch, and it very well may be. But I wanted to post here and see if there was anyone else who had a problem such as this and what their experience was.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

| Battery for 2003 Accent Priz 22:08:21 |
| | I have a 2003 Accent and am having battery problems. Basically, the car was struggling to turn over and now won't start. I was able to jump start it to get it going thank goodness.
The problem is the battery problem occured at around 6PM on a Friday Night, after the dealership closed. I went to 2 places and called 3 more, and was told they either didn't carry a battery for the car or it had to be special ordered. The fact I only got a little over 2 years out of the battery doesn't give me much confidence in Hyundai's batteries either.
My wife has a 2002 Accent and was able to find a new battery without a problem, but I wasn't. I have never in my life had this problem with finding a battery.
It's really frustrating that I may have to do without a car for the weekend over something as simple and common as a battery.
I wonder if anyone else has experienced anything like this?

sonata handbrake dinosauto 21:21:59 |
| | I have a 07 sonata. When parking on a slight incline I apply the handbrake and when I take my foot off the pedal brake the cars moves forward very slightly. Also if I am parked on the flat I can move the car by pushing it, again it is only very slightly however the wheels do rock when you do this. The dealer tells me this is normal....I don't think so. I am driving over 20 years and this is the first car it has ever happened in. |

| car shakes Teri 15:19:45 |
| | Hi I have a 2000 Hyundai Accent that has started to shake when I reach speeds of 65mph and stops at about 73 or 74 mph. This started when we had a flat driver's side tire. Our muffle just went bad and while the mechanic had the car we asked him to check out the shaking. He said he noticed it but that we need new tires and that would take care of that. Before we go out and buy new tires though I want to make sure that's all it could be. If anyone has had a similar problem your advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

| Sonata Audio Install Woes HELP PLEASE! Guest 16:59:56 |
| | Hi.
Got a question for you all. I have become quite frustrated and need direction. Here goes:
I have a 2003 Hyundai Sonata LX with Premium Sound (Cassette and CD). I bought a JVC KD-DV5100 Deck. The Deck came with an HWH-1102 wiring harness.
I wired everything up correctly and there really are no shorts (so please don't go telling me I have a short, unless you are just making a joke at me ;)).
The deck turns on and functions correctly. The CD plays, the FM Tunes.
***No Sound comes through speakers***
When I put my old deck back in, sound works fine.
NOW HERE IS THE INTERRESTING PART:
Counting the wires in the harness that is physically wired to the car, there are 15 wires. I looked on Hyundai's site for any information as to explain which wires are for what systems in the car. Not any good info there that is readable(www.hmaservice.com).
Counting the number of wires coming from the HWH-1102 harness, there are only 14 wires.
This means one wire in my car is not being connected to anything when I use the adapter harness.
I am now at the point where I believe this one wire is the reason my speakers are making no noise when I connect the new stereo, but they work fine when I connect the old stereo.
The wires that I have connected from the car are as follows: Left Front Pos Left Front Neg Right Front Pos Right Front Neg Left Rear Pos Left Rear Neg Right Rear Pos Right Rear Neg Ignition Power Battery Power Ground (Black) Power Antenna Illumination Control Dimmer Ground (I have been grounding this wire, as the deck does not have an input for this wire.)
The wires from the deck that are not connected to the car system are: Parking Break (I have this grounded)
I am going off of memory, but I believe that is all the wiring info.
So to reiterate:
The new deck works fine, except no audio comes out. The old deck works 100% fine. The old deck receives 15 wires from the car. The new deck's adapter harness only receives 14 wires from the car (one wire is not connected)
Does anyone know what this mystery wire is, and is this what is causing my pain and suffering?
Sincerely,
Nathan

1.6L Hard starting Accent Jeff 17:58:39 |
| | My daughters' '01 Accent, 1.6L, occasionally (every few days) doesn't want to fire. As a matter of fact the other day I tried to start it for 15 minutes and gave up and had it towed home. The next day it started up right away. What should I look at first? The next time it happens I want to check the injectors for voltage. What could it be? Can someone steer me in the right direction. Thanks |

| 06 Elantra Alarm M. Lewis 01:09:44 |
| | Owner's manual says that if car is locked with the remote, it can be unlocked w/remote or ignition key. When opening w/key, however, the alarm goes off. Called the local dealer and was told that the alarm will sound for 30 seconds or so if a key is used to open the car if it has been locked with the remote. This they said was normal. Only way around it is to lock the car w/the key.
If this is correct, is there a way to disable the alarm?

| Lower ball joints on Santa Fe Richard 07:08:24 |
| | I just had both front lower ball joints replaced on my wife's 2002 Santa Fe at 45,022 miles. One year ago at 37,000 miles both front lower ball joints were replaced. Both jobs were performed at the same dealership. Is it normal for ball joints to wear out after only 8,000 miles? This is my wife's car. She does not drive the car off-road. She loves this car and treats it well. I asked the service person if this is something that other Santa Fe owners are experiencing and was told that she does not know. And that maybe they were bad parts. Any similar experience in this group?

starter problems on 1997 Hyundai Elantra Con 20:14:00 |
| | I have replaced the starter on my Elantra 6 times. Its quite plain to see now that the problem is beyond the starter. To convince my husband of this is another story. I had the fly wheel checked out in a transmission shop and was told nothing was wrong with the fly wheel and that there was no teeth missing. I have put new and used startes in and they all do the same. It makes a loud scraping sound and won't start. any ideas on what the problem could be ? |

| Brake noise Sam 08:03:00 |
| | Appreciate your comments.
2003 Accent with 5k miles on it (still under warranty).
Applying the bakes can cause a soft repeating thud sound from rear of the car.
Dealer turned the drums at about 2k miles: stopped it briefly (Feb 2005).
Dealer replaced the drums, shoes, and wheel bearings at about 3.5k miles: stopped it for awhile (Mar 2005).
It is starting again.
Any suggestions?
