| | I have a nissan tino that is losing power once it hits 60mph - If I stop the engine and re start it the car will drive fine until I hit upwards of 40mph then it feels sluggish. At 60 it gradually loses acceleration until I pull over and re start the engine. Any ideas?? |

I NEED HELP!!!!! LoVe 2 H8 My NiSsAn 08:48:58 |
| | I am having SEVERAL mechanical problems with my nissan maxima. First off... my sunroof won't shut (and I live in oregon and constantly go to seattle, so it has not been a fun venture for my interior) secondly, the windows on both of the backdoors won't roll down. And my front passenger door won't open (so when my husband drives I have to climb my fat ass in through the window. I kind of figured that last one is just a latch problem though that is kind of a DUH!!!!! |

| engine hesitation Guest 19:48:43 |
| | I purchased 92 240 couple wks ago. It ran fine until I filled the gas tank. I put 94 octane sunoco in it and it started to hesitate at 55-70 mph range and sometimes on acceleration. Also got an occasional rough idle. I put fuel inj cleaner in the gas, changed fuel filter, plugs and wires. it seemed to help whereas the problem occurred very infrequently. today I filled the tank again with 92 octane and it started to hesitate while cruising at 60mph. Any ideas? Car starts fine, idles fine, does not smell like burning rich. |

| 98 altima gxe 120,000 miles...replace a timing...chain???? Guest 06:01:50 |
| | I'm a car maintainence NOVICE. My wifes car, a 98 nissan altima gxe, i believe is due for a major tune-up. We are just married and her old family mechanic said her timing chain will probably never need replacing, since it is a chain and not a belt. Is this true? and if not, I'm assuming I need to replace it immediatly then?
Also, these items are what I'm about to do to her car...are these all advisable?
(which should I be able to do myself? - i have a military base Auto shop with free profesional advice/help fully loaded. But I will need to do things myself. I don't have a problem going to a Local mechanic shop though)
Oil change-synthetic inspect brakes Alignment Replace Spark Plugs / wiring check / replace wires ?? Tire bolt check Change Air Filter Change gas filter
REPLACE AND FLUSH antifreeze, trans fluid brake fluid power steering fluid differencial fluid oil change windshield wiper fluid
I did a little research on this website and found that those are probably what I need to do since I have no clue as to when any if ever have been done.
Thanks for your help to all that respond!! I'm in need!

| problems starting 2000 nissan sentra L.A. K via CarKB.com 21:09:48 |
| | I have a 2000 nissan sentra gxe, every once in a while I'll have a problem where it won't start. I can still turn on lights, radio, etc., but the engine will not turn over or start. I'll wait a while, maybe 15 -30 mins and it will start right up, as if nothing is wrong. It runs fine, no hesitation or problems starting any other time, just a rare occasion. I'm concerned now because it has happened maybe 3 times in the past 2 weeks.
Has anyone ever had this problem, could it be the starter or ignition?
I've attempted to have a free starter testing at Advance or Discount Auto Parts, they say I need to take out the starter.
Is this something I could do on my own (taking out starter to test or even replace)?
Thank you.

| 2000 Maxima Service Engine Soon Light Azf713 12:38:54 |
| | Hi, friends,
I have a 2000 Maxima with 50,700 miles that just passed inspection 3 weeks ago, and mechanically is in excellent condition. Four days ago, the Service Engine Soon light came on, and the manual says to first check the gas cap to make sure it's on tightly, and that it may take a couple of driving trips until it recycles itself.
The light is still on after 3 days of driving, and I was hoping someone out there may be able to give me a possible reason why it is on, and what, if anything, I can do to reset it myself, short of bringing it to the dealer.
thanks! alan

| Supercharged 2002 Xterra Has Lost Power Mardon 14:41:50 |
| | We have a 2002 Xterra SE with the Super Charger. For the first couple of years that we owned this vehicle, it had lots of power and I would never have to downshift to get up a steep hill. For the last two years, the power seems to be gone. I have to downshift on steep hills. Under heavy towing loads I have to downshift on even small hills. I've had the vehicle in the garage to be checked out several times and they keep saying nothing is wrong. I'm posting this now because I made a drive yesterday that involved several steep hills and got reminded again just how much power the Xterra has lost since it was new. The lack of power isn't really very noticeable driving around the city or on flat roads. I'm wondering if the problem could be the supercharger? If the supercharger were not operating properly, would the driver be able to tell? Would the symptoms be what I'm experiencing? Is it possible that a bad supercharger might not have been detected by the Nissan dealer on those occasions that I have had the Xterra in for this lose of power problem? The dealer has never found anything wrong. They say everything is OK but I know it's not. The 5-yr extended warranty will soon expire. That's another reason for me posting now. Any and all advice/comments appreciated.

| 1990 Maxima Cory 13:38:43 |
| | My Max has 250-300k miles on it, and for some time now, after starting-up it dies after about 5-6 minutes, sometimes longer. When I re-start it I have to go through a series of start-ups and stops. During this brief series, when I press the gas pedal the engine tries to stall out, but when I let off of it the engine will continue running for a brief moment and then die again. Initially, the problem was though to be oil getting into the alternator, so I changed the alternator and had the valve gaskets changed, but the problem continues. Can anyone tell me what my problem might be!? Any help would be appreciated.

| Timing belt question Gary Steele 17:24:29 |
| | I don't plan on changing it myself as I have so many other hobbies and interests that I can't know everything about everything. I have designed and built two large houses and two cottages with one house in less than ten weeks from clearing land to moving in. Everything takes work and money.
Anyway I noticed that the maintenance book said to change the timing belt at 160,000 kms. Is this necessary at this time? Are there any signs that show it is needed or not? If I did it myself it would take more than 10 weeks and not be done right, lol.
Are there are Nissan sites that list areas with Nissan car clubs to work on things together? Canada or US?
Thanks,

| '05 Xterra: removing the &^%$& spare!!!! Guest 23:25:02 |
| | My wife and I were looking at her 2005 X's spare tire today, since we haven't used it. It's like a truck's: you stick the crank in a hole and turn it and the tire lowers to the ground. But this has me stumped. The tire lowers on a chain. The manual says that when the tire is lowered fully to the ground "reach under the vehicle and remove the retaining chain." You can NOT "remove the retaining chain," I swear. It goes up into this cranking mechanism that lets you raise and lower the tire, but it does NOT come loose.
I spent half an hour fiddling with it (and I've been working on cars for 30 years). No way you can get that chain off without a hacksaw or a pair of bolt cutters. Can somebody please explain how this is supposed to be done, or do we have tens of thousands of Xterra owners out there who don't realize they can't change their tires if they get a flat???!!

| 2000 Maima/QX V6 3L - Engine missfires at low rpm Guest 13:41:33 |
| | The problem is most noticable when stationary with the engine idling with the gear shift in "D" or "R". I have had the coil packs partially replaced & the knock sensor replaced at enormous cost, but no improvement. Apart from this very annoying problem the car runs well.
I use RON 95 petrol (UK rating) the engine does not ping/pink. One of my family says I should try a higher octane petrol. Can anyone advise on this or offer any other solutions? |

| '98 Frontier Clutch Noise Lls8000 04:17:34 |
| | My '98 frontier has a clutch that is making a whirring noise when the clutch is depressed. I've read posts here that say it's potentially the through-out bearrng or the pilot bushings. My question is, if I wait on this repair, am I potentially doing more harm to the transmission? Thanks, LLS
