| Electrical problem Ed 22:42:57 |
| | About 2 weeks ago I was driving and my stereo and dashlights went out. About 4 minutes later the check engine light came on and my car started running very rough and was idling around 500 RPM. I pulled over to the side of the road and was giving it gas and after a couple of minutes the stereo came back on and everything was fine. Then it didnt't happen again until about a week after.
After a week it would happen on and off, but when it happened, it would only last about 5 seconds (the stereo would go out then 5 seconds later it would work). This happened on and off for about 3 days. Now it happened again, but it stays dead.
I get a boost and it works for about a minute, then dies.
Is this the alternator? I am unsure because I don't know if when the alternator dies, it can work then stop working then work then stop working. The only other thing I could think it is is a short, but I hope not.
Does anyone have any experience with alternators or this problem that they could give me some feedback with?
Oh yeah, it is a 1989 900S.
Thanks
Ed

| Fog Lamps Bk 06:12:15 |
| | Hello All, Two questions: 1. Where are the plugs for the fog lamps? I am putting a pair on my '86 900t and cannot locate them for the life of me. I have the switch, fuse and relay in place but just need to locate the lamp plugs.
2 Any one know the pin out for the fog lamp switch? I am going to put two sets on (one amber and one clear) and want to put a rocker switch in to change between the two.

| keys inside the car Guest 23:20:30 |
| | I've gotten both of the keys for my '95 saab 900 se locked inside of the car. Jokes about my intelligence aside (I'm aware this is the stupidest thing I've done in a long time), how do I get in? The locksmith I called screwed me over and never showed up, the police can't get into it. Another locksmith told me he couldn't make a new key from scratch because it's a high security key. I have the VIN #, but dealers are closed today. Will they be able to cut a new one from the VIN #, and if so how much am I looking at? Wondering if it would be cheaper to have the locksmith break in or just buy another key.
And, for the record, no I do not usually keep my spare inside the car. It's in my wallet, which I usually never leave inside the car. Yesterday was a rare occurence. Dang it.
Thanks to anyone that can help. |

1999 Saab 9.5 Fuel Injector? Amanda 01:00:52 |
| | I just bought a 1999 Saab 9.5 and occasionally the car decides not to start. It attempts to but doesn't turn over. It acts like it's not getting fuel.... like trying to start a car without gas. The local mechanics claim it's the starter, alternator, or battery... but I'm not stupid and know how a car behaves when these are the problem. The longer you wait, the more likey the car is to start. So time seems to be an issue. If it doesn't start on the first try, I turn the key to "on" and pump the gas a few times, then it starts right up. I think the problem is either the fuel filter or the fuel injector, can anyone comment on this? If it's the filter, WHERE is the filter located on the vehicle? Also, I need to have the idle upped but there isn't a repair manual available for this car and we're wondering where on the car we can adjust the idle? Thanks! |

| 9.3 start problems Jttiddlywinks@Gmail.Com 00:47:51 |
| | I am having random starting problems w/ my 2000 9.3 SE w/ 90K miles. It happens occasionally when I drive about 10 - 20 minutes stop for a short while (5-15 minutes) turn it back on and it won't start. The key turns and the electric panel charges, but nothing else. It doesn't turn over or make any sounds whatsoever. If I wait about 20-25 minutes it starts again. I've taken it to the dealership 4 different times now and they've been unable to recreate the problem. Someone else in this group had a similar problem, but I wasn't able to contact them for the remedy. Please help! Oh and they did recheck and fix the connections to the battery and that wasn't it. Thanks, Jill

| | Hello all! The lease on my '02 9-3 SE ends at the end of April and I am interested in purchasing the car. However, if I buy my car I will definitely need an extended warranty and would appreciate some advise (which warranty company is best, pricing, options, etc.)

| SRS light Pooh Bear 04:05:41 |
| | Hi !
Yesterday the SRS indicator on my '94 9000 CSE ( UK model with driver's airbag ) didn't go out as usual.
Does the fix exclusively involve a visit to a Saab dealer ? Is there anything I can check myself ?

| '94 900s used to intermittently stall, now no start Jaustin 05:33:24 |
| | All,
I have a '94 900s convertible that is killing me with all the little things that have gone wrong since I decided to repair the transmission. =(
A couple months ago, I would be driving along and the motor would just stop. most times it would pop the clutch and get it running again no problems. eventually It mutated into not starting; it this would be after it's been driving for a while, it would crank fine, but just NEVER start. If I gave it another shot in ten minutes or so, it would fire up. This left me stranded once, at night, with my kids in the car. I had it towed to my mech who replaced the fuel pump. The car worked fine for like two days, then it stalled on me while I was driving. it started up again using the forementioned trick, but now it sits in my driveway, melting away. No start. I replaced the battery today - it cranks fine, but will not start. Is this just another familiar propblem with the 900s?

| '94 9000 CSE radio replacement Etaoin Shrdlu 19:48:30 |
| | Bought a new Clarion head unit for my wife's '94 9000 CSE. No local radio dealer will touch it. I'm left to fend for myself.
The car has the separate CD player/equalizer mounted directly underneath. There was a marked reduction in volume when the CD player ceased to function. I'm not certain if it was the amp or CD player.
Questions:
1) Should I bypass the amp? If so, is there a simpler way than running new wires?
2) Is there a wiring harness available? Metra et. al have no listings.
3) Is there a way to remove the mounting sleeves without taking apart the dash?
4) Am I stupid even to attempt this?
Thanks.

| Next Big Step for me...... NG900 cse Mike 06:19:34 |
| | Well guys & gals,
I found a 1996 NG900 and I think it'll be our next 2nd car. The wife likes the color! (and the way it drives too)
Drove it for a few miles this past weekend and it drives like new.
It's a 2.0 Turbo, 4-door (really 5-door) with an automatic. It has 160k miles on it (but looks and drives like 50k.)
The automatic is the only thing that gives me hesitation.
I've had an auto in a C900 and I hated it. Powerless and expensive to repair.
This one felt much different. More power, seemed to drive well and I really liked the interior layout of the car. I even found a CUP HOLDER!
My question is: are the NG auto's lots better / more reliable than the C900 automatics were?
The car has had regular maintenance and oil changes. Belts and pulleys look good. Suspension feels tight. Interior is nice and clean.
A silly question - Did they put the 2.3 ltr in the NG 900's or was it a 9000 only option?
Thanks for all the good info that this group puts out!

| I need all color codes for C900s (1979-1993/94) and NG 900s
(1994-1998) Sg 23:34:08 |
| |
Folks,
I would like to see if you could help me put together the Classic 900 and NG 900 paint colors and codes.
I need codes and colors for the following
C900 - 1979-1993/(1994 inc. conv)
NG900 -1994-1998
Paintscratch.com does not break down models in these years, so it's nearly impossible to say which one goes with a C900 vs. a C9000, etc.
If you have ANY information in your own personal archives, etc. please let me know
I look forward to your response and thank you for your time.
Best,
Ryan

| '89 Saab 900i steering heavy Fat Sam 22:42:03 |
| | I've noticed over the past few days that the steering in my 900 is getting very heavy indeed. It's also started making a loud groaning noise when you try to turn the steering wheen whiel maneuvering at slow speeds.
I'm thinking it might be the power steering fluid needing topped up, but I'm more worried that it might be a problem with the pumps for the power steering.
Has anyone encountered this before, and is it likely to be painfull in the wallet?

| Sensonic Kingdoodlesquat 18:17:01 |
| | I'm looking at buying a 900 sensonic but I've heard that the gearbox can be a little tempermental & if they get stuck in gear, its goodnight. I've always had Saabs with no real problems (until I had a 9-5 that is) & in general have found them to be the most reliable car I've ever driven.
However, the sensonic thing worries me a bit, so could anyone please advise on how reliable they are or should I steer well clear,

| Used Dealer San Francisco CA John Ahlstrom 18:00:33 |
| | Can anyone tell me the name or URL of a responsible used SAAB dealer in the San Francisco CA area? I am looking to buy a 2002-2004 almost anything from SAAB that is in very good condition and from a reliable dealer.
yp.yahoo.com hasn't provided anything except a couple of names.
A couple of weeks ago I got to an interesting web site of dealer from Edmunds or KBB or something like that, but I failed to bookmark it.
Any references and reviews of dealers would be welcome.
Thanks
