| Re: Maintaining a low-mileage Corolla; timing belt/water pump C Yohman 22:00:13 |
| | I am interested in knowing mileage or agewise when a timing belt should be replaced. Specifically, for a 1998 Toyota Corolla.

| cressida fan not kicking on. Guest 20:41:33 |
| | I have a 1992 toyota cressida and found that the condensor fan was not running. I found the fan relay was bad, changed it and it is now working.
but wait, with the AC and fan working the car works great until about 30 to 40 minutes when it starts to overheat. At that point, I noticed that the fan is off. Sometimes the fan would kick back in when the needle is near to the red zone, sometimes quicker. Once the fan kicks in, it will return to normal temperature. This happens every day.
Without AC running, I have no overheating problems. I changed thermostat, radiator, water pump, water temp sender, water temp sensor.
Anyone can help me explain whats going on here?
Greatly appreciate it!

| | What the J D Powers survey of original owners actually shows is that the number of complaints for all manufactures, after three years fall within the 2% to 3% range. The same as the initial quality survey three year ago. With the average dropping to 2.2% from 2.3% average of the previous three year survey. The number one complaint? 'Wind noise.' ;)

| Window regulator replacement and disappearing oil in 99 Corolla Arklier 13:08:09 |
| | I recently had the window regulator and motor replaced in the driver's side door on my 1999 Corolla because the motor was making groaning sounds when the window was rolled up. About a month after the new part was installed, the window jumps the track and will not roll up past 3/4ths of the way. I bought the part seperately online, and the place that I bought it from is going to send me an RMA. Rather than paying again to have the part removed and reinstalled at the mechanic or dealer, I've decided to do it myself. I need to open the door, remove the defective part, and then reinstall the replacement once it arrives. I still have the original part, which still works, just noisily. Can I use the old part temporarily, and if not, is there any way to lock the window in the up position until the replacement gets here? Are there any guides online on how to do this repair or at least open the door?
As for the oil disappearing, it's very perplexing. The car is driven a lot, 60 miles round trip 4 days a week for work. Total milage is a little over 120K, around 80% is highway miles. I change the oil every 3000 to 5000 miles, and it's always half a quart to a quart low when the oil is changed. At first I thought it was leaking, so I parked the car over a drop cloth for over a week without a hint of any drops. I had the mechanic look at it to see if there was any leaking when the car was running, and they ran it up on a lift for over an hour and no leaks. The underside doesn't show any oil residue at all, and they even had me come over and see for myself. The car passed its emissions test last month with flying colors, but they took the reading for the test from the computer and not from the tailpipe, so I'm not sure how accurate the reading really is. The engine does have some sludge in it, but it's not too bad. I haven't noticed any blue smoke or oil in the radiator water, and don't think it's burning any oil, but every time the oil is changed, some of it is missing.
Any ideas?

| Camshaft Position Sensor, Code 340, Again Charlie 09:14:01 |
| | Thank you to those who answered my questions about this thing. The problem is recurring but with the tech dara you provided it is not so scary. Wiggling the wires and connectors cures it temporarily. There is a lot of grease and dirt on the back of the block that needs to be cleaned and then I will check the connectors better, both directly and with an inspection mirror.

| Coolant Level Low Chadha 09:01:00 |
| | Hello,
I have a 99 Camry at approx. 150K miles. Today while driving, I noticed that the Engine temperature needle started moving upwards towards the dreaded "H" letter and I suddenly pulled over and shut down the engine. After popping the hood, I noticed that the coolant reservoir was down basically nothing. This is the first time this such thing has happened to this car. Yes, I do always crank the AC high enough during summers and this summer has been no different than the last 4 years I have owned and driven this car. Ofcourse, I have driven this car a lot so I do realize I have got a lot of mileage out of it. I can think of only three possible causes for the coolant reservoir to drop down:
a. Leakage somewhere b. Engine consuming it much higher than it has been regularly, or c. Since the car is getting older and has been driven a lot, she just requires more coolant than a newer car would need
Please guide me in this very much needed help with my lovely car that I would hate to part ways with. The last time I had coolant fluid replaced was at 88K miles in late 2002. Could this be another reason why this could have happened?
Also, I am wondering about 150K mile checkup list that I should get done. I have done timing belt replacement at 79K miles and have done oil changes almost always at 3000K miles interval and tire rotation every other oil change.
Thanks in advance! Rohit

| Gas Leak from Vacuum Line Ron 02:20:30 |
| | Does it make sense that I would have a gas leak from a vacuum line on the manifold?
I knocked one loose when working on my 92 3.0l V6. I then had a gas leak I could not find. I reconnected the vacuum line and the gas leak seem to evaporate (pun intended).
Is one of my cylinders not firing? I just replaced the timing belt, but have not yet set the timing.

| | On my 06 RAV4 (Limeted) there are 2 sensors on the dash in front of the driver. Does anybody know what they are? I asked the sales droid when I bought it and he didn't know. I noticed that these were called out while looking for a dash cover so I imaging one would not want to have them covered up? Thanks if you can help.
